It’s a Fine Morning. Let’s Go to Walmart

Our AirBnB had the basics, but there were a lot of little things that we wanted and also that I forgot to pack. Like toothpaste. And extra rugs for the bathroom so I don't slip and die getting out of the shower. Those kinds of things.

Although the days are brutal, the mornings are pretty tolerable, so we head out at 7am.

But First: Coffee

Along the way, there was a coffee shop, and I wanted to know if I could order something basic in Spanish.

Spoiler alert: I could not.

The clerk was extremely kind and dealt with my fumbling and translator app usage when I completely failed. By the end of it, I had an americano for me and a hot chocolate for Izzy.

The coffee was really good. It's too bad that I can't really justify ever going back since the sidewalks are a travesty.

Okay, Now Walmart

So we walk to Walmart. It was supposed to be a 20min walk, but it was far longer than that because Izzy has no stamina at all. She whined and dragged her feet the whole way.

This does not actually get her out of the heat, but six-year-olds are not logical creatures.

The first thing we run into is that we have to check our bags. That is not standard procedure at any Walmart I'd been to, but okay.

This Walmart was a sad shadow of what I got in the US. We did manage to pick up the basics of what we wanted like laundry detergent, basic spices, some kitchen staples, some extra PJs for Izzy. That kind of thing. We passed on the chicken because the quality was not there.

When we checked out is when I realized: You can't tap pay at Walmart, and my wallet is in my bag. This is also when we realized that we had lost our ticket. Great. Luckily, the staff was chill about letting us get our bags out with questions.

But also, I felt like a jerk because we didn't have any cash and couldn't tip the baggers. Very important since they only work for tips. They're like American waiters except more dependent on tips.

Since Walmart was so bad, I decided to do some investigation. Turns out, that Walmart is considered the literal worst Walmart in the city. Honestly, felt like it.

Okay, so we're never going back there again.
